Truly Springing Forward…

It’s Spring Break, in our house. Since we home school, it will look a lot like days in the sunshine (assuming, of course, the sun cooperates)…
It will look a lot like creativity… I want to attempt to sew a camera strap. (I am NOT a seamstress) I want to teach Gen some things in the kitchen. Genny wants to have a few more Chopped sessions… {If you’ve never seen the Food Network show, than that makes no sense… If you have, then yes- we’ve taken to doing our own basket meal versions. It’s fun.} She’s planning on decorating a messenger bag. I’m planning on finishing the decorations for her party.
It will look a lot like fun… Fun that comes packaged in a colorful assortment of time with friends, just hanging out; board games; wii time; scooter riding; basketball games; and maybe even swimming…
It will look like home… cooking; crafting; vegging; reading; writing… (hopefully, writing, that is…)
It will look like special outings… A trip to the theater to see a musical; a spa day complete with hair treatments, pedicures and manicures; a visit to the museum; roller skating and movies…
It will look like quality time, however you look at it… And not a moment too soon, either!

And, it’s a wrap…

Here at Chez’ Wagner, it has been quite the week…

Wind, snow , sunshine, blizzards, sixty-five degree days… Unpredictable, if anything…

My favorite Rainy Day in May post would have to be this one though, for the life of me I can’t understand why.

The most incredible thing I encountered on the web was this video
Top five moments:
1} getting our garage (after three years) organized. (PLUS it was 65 that day!)
2} lunch and a matinée with a girlfriend.
3} Lent… I get excited about things like that!
4} funny text bantering with Chw about sending him to the gallows. :) {we’re cool like that!}
5} Going to see the Broadway tour of Fiddler on the Roof.

Best song this week was this one, HANDS DOWN!

Best recipe was Vegetarian Korma. It’s a family favorite (even my meat loving husband loves it!) only we change a few things… and I use Sweet potatoes for half of the potatoes it calls for. And we don’t use onions.

While practicing the ways of the home educating we studied horses, specifically caring for them, the science of them and ways they’ve been used and bred over the years. We are reading the play Romeo & Juliet for literature, which has of course brought about some interesting discussions…

Best thing I read was chapter eight in One Thousand Gifts… It may be taking me a long time to get through this book, due to almost no time to read, but every time I get the chance i just love it all the more.

I am really looking forward to an interior design sale, with a girlfriend tomorrow, followed by a film critique… {You know I’m anxious to get out of the house when I’m uber excited about critiquing ;) } Also hoping to sneak in some sort of date with the husband but we’ll see…

How was your week? What were your best moments?

A gift, A thank you and a shoutout…

Amidst the complete craziness of last week I was given the Stylish Blogger Award. How incredibly cool is that? Let me tell you, aside from Colin winning his little award- (*swoon*) this was a highlight in my otherwise grim week! 30ish Mama gifted me this fantastic little bit of bling, and as I understand it, it’s now my turn to pass the bling along…
She is just the sweetest! Thanks, girl, so much!

Now here are the responsibilities that go along with being a reigning Stylish Blogger:
1.  Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award.
2.  Share 7 things about yourself.
3.  Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers, or less, its up to you.
4.  Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award.
My Seven things
1} I am a flexitarian, which arguably could mean I am a normal eater, however for me it means that I am primarily a prescitarian (vegetarian who eats fish) who rarely eats meat. The reason for this is because I love a great streak, about once or twice a year, AND bacon is quite fantastic…
2} I try to go to the movies at least once a week. Every once in awhile a week passes without the opportunity but I decided a long time ago that I love the movies, it’s good “me” time, and so it’s a goal…
3} I LOVE lemon… The smell. I love lemon desserts. Lemon cake is my favorite!
4} I’ve been thinking a lot about going back to school because, even though I write professionally, I worry about what I would do if something happened to my husband.
5} I love the ocean. Rain or shine, a quiet beach is my favorite place on the planet.
6} I am getting my passport this year… I have European dreams.
7} I have a bit of a crush on Javier Bardem. The morning after the Oscars my daughter asked me if he was the fat one, in the white suit, who was really old. Sad.

The Beatles totally got it…

A few days ago my oldest daughter was talking about making a list for the type of guy she wants. I had to smile because it reminded me of a list I myself had made, back in the day. In the days after a few high school heart breaks, but about a month and a half before I met Chw.

As any seventeen year old girl’s list would have, mine contained a few fairly shallow hopes. Beyond those, though, the one thing that I wouldn’t even consider budging on was that this guy, whomever he’d be, would have to have amazing hands. Great hands. Warm hands to hold. Hands that looked great, worked hard, loved to be held and could encompass mine.

The night of mine and Chw’s first kiss, (which happened after he asked if he could kiss me, just like i’d written on my wish list) I really took note of his hands. No, that’s not true… I fell in love with his hands. Seventeen years later, I grow to love them more everyday.

Those hands have comforted me through miscarriages.
They have wiped away countless broken and aching tears.
They have signed his name to some of my most treasured letters and cards.
They have dialed my cell number when he’s needed me.
They have paved the way for our family to have a roof over our heads and food on the table.
They have worked, along side my hands, to provide stimulation and therapy for our Reactive Attachment Disorder child when she’s needed it the most.
They tightly lace their beautiful fingers with mine, as we’re walking.
They rub my neck and forehead when I’m lost in a migraine.
They brush our daughters hair and play board games with her.
They are creative- they draw, they paint, they build.

Those hands, his hands, they reach for mine even when he’s deep in sleep…

Having a child with an attachment disorder has this way or redefining nearly everything about your life. For us, touch and affection was at the top of that list. Though his hands may have been an important romantic notion, when I was seventeen, they became the glue that would preserve both mine and our daughter’s sanity through the darkest times.

Today, in my 28 day challenge I will:
– Intentionally reach out to comfort my hard working husband. I will rub his hands, his neck and his shoulders. I will be affectionate with him. I will appreciate him, and all that he does, and make sure that he knows this…
– I will hold my daughters hand. I will brush her hair and love her. I will hold her.

Here comes the sun…

Is there anything more symbolic in our society than a sunrise? It signifies so much. I, myself, have had many a sunrise moments where life seemed to get brighter and more beautiful after a darkish hell… I wouldn’t necessarily say that my life is in a darkish sort of hell right now, because it isn’t. My life is actually really great, but that’s a different story… It’s just that, well, the sunrise this morning reminded me that- every day, it’s going to come…
Sometimes I need the silliest reminders…
Though I’m not going to get into it in such a public manner, Saturday brought with it some very ugly things that I had to face. I spent the majority of the weekend with a massive knot in my gut and always on the verge of feeling like I was about to be sick at my stomach. Sleep, since then, has been rough… Dreams even worse… But then the sunrise this morning reminded me of everything in my life. Everything good and beautiful, as well as everything gritty and difficult. Life is full of bad, and if we let it that can be overwhelming. Life is full of good too, of great even. It’s just a matter of which we choose to look at…
This morning I’m looking at the sunrise…
This week I plan to:
1} Read a book. (no, i did not do this last week… Gen got the chicken pox and everything sort of went down hill.)
2} have fun with Genny. Good, quality fun.
3} get creative, with Genny.
4} cook 3 things/recipes I’ve never made before.
5} get (at least) 2500 words of writing on the project, done.
6} bake bread. (yes, i did do this last week, using my LAME breadmaker and it was awful. doing it by hand this time.)
7} map out garden plan.
8} hand write five notes/letters.
9} try to forgive more.
10} have a quality date night with Chw.
How’s your week looking?
