Shedding my bad girl ways…

In an effort to change my horrific ways, I’ve decided to resource some better behaviors, from a friend

In all seriousness though, she’s a COMPLETE genius and I do have some horrible habits that her revolutionary idea really spotlighted…

Like, for one: I am a compulsive list maker. I have, on an average day, three or four to-do lists going, at one time. It has happened less than 20 times, in my entire life of 34 years, that every tedious detail has been checked off and every task completed… The end result is always a resounding “you suck!” non-pep talk to myself…

But then, my google reader paved the way to her glorious post and i thought to myself- with a task list like that, life already sounded happier.

More peaceful…

So, I’m doing it. I’m buying a ticket for the fast train to living a life that can be both Type A anal and lead to days of seizing the moment and focusing on what matters.

{Clarifying, here and now, that I don’t actually own sweat pants. I do own yoga pants and I’m not promising not to wear them… She, this friend of mine, is so much better than me.}

I do, however, plan to:
1} Bring my sewing machine out, (it intimidates me) and fix things/play.
2} Read a book. No pressure about what book, it just has to be a book- for me- in it’s entirety.
3} Dance, everyday, for fun.
4} Play with my cricut.
5} Do yoga, at least twice. Twice is reasonable.
6} Listen to 5 cd’s that i haven’t listened to in a very long time.
7} Continue purging things we don’t need or love…
8} Fill out the foster care paperwork.
9} Give myself a pedicure.
10} Bake home made bread.

I would love to hear what you are doing this week to make it a productive but beautiful one…

My shiniest, proudest moment EVER…

Ok, So maybe not the proudest moment, ever, but I chuckled a little…
While continuing my quest as to what direction I want my blog journey to head, lots of interesting articles have been mentioning that I should know my audience…
OF COURSE! Why didn’t I think of that?
Naturally, my next step was to venture into my stats- as it was there that I would learn the truth. The truth like how Google brought me brilliant people searching for:
– rainy day in may. (thank you! really…)
– disappointment in people. (not even sure. In me? Me in others? Most importantly- did they find what they were looking for?)
– how many days are in may? (mkay)
– how many rainy days are in may, every year? (hmm.)
but this one took the cake:
– bloggers who think twilight sucks. Ha ha ha…
{For the record: i loved the book, hated the movie and yet appear hypocritical because I’ve seen it a bazillion times… I’m sorry. Loved the soundtrack; can’t stand Kristen Stewart. Totally Team Edward (due to the books) though i would absolutely jump on the bandwagon to wash Rob’s hair for him- should he need some help…
And yes, I do own a Twilight hoodie…
i think that about covers that…}

{The best and the worst of…}

{fifteen}

{sixteen}

Weird, WEIRD weekend…

the best and the worst:
Best- Amanda made it home safe and it was so good to hug that girl and have her home.
Worst- she came home with food poisoning- which made for a horrendous day of flying, for her.
Best- found out when Lucas will be home between training and his station. Can not wait.
Best- 90 minute massage.
Worst- it was all work on my torn up shoulder. it hurt something awful and I still am in so much pain.
Best- a lovely bit of time with my family, out and about, before we picked up Amanda from the airport.
Worst- the mall. I detest the mall. loathe it. And when we went to exchange a very (once) overpriced pair of jeans for Gen, we left $13 richer. THIRTEEN DOLLARS…
Best- puppy snuggles.
Worst- puppy ending up in the ER for a double inner ear infection.
Best- finding a game we love (were introduced to it on NYE)
Worst- not getting to play it yet.
Best- Golden Globes… yay.
Worst- Anne Hathaway’s dress…
Best- hubby made pancakes and we lazed around in comfy clothes all day playing with the cricut and being creative.
Worst- having to stay home and miss church…
Best- the rain.
Worst- the cold and gloom…
Best- that no matter where life takes me, I’ll always have an ocean view… (see image sixteen…)

Been Thinkin’…

I have been thinking about things, lately…
some of it is just stuff. some of it’s more. This time, last year, as I was surrounded by people who were decreasing their possessions and tossing stuff to ring in the new year, I was sitting around saying “no way! not my books!” or “no way! not my music!” But this year I’m singing a different tune…
So I’ve been thinking-
– that I’m going to reread every non antique or classic book I own. If I don’t absolutely love it, I’m passing it on.
– i am going to start going through dvds and cds. If we haven’t watched it in over 18 months and aren’t really in the mood to watch it now, i’m passing it on.
– i am going to stop making “life” vision boards and begin doing annual ones. I’m working on mine throughout the week, and hoping Chw will do the same. Now that Gen’s 11 I think it’s high time she gets one as well.
– i am through with negativity. I just can’t take it anymore and I don’t have to. There is nothing wrong with saying “no” to people, even people you love. There is nothing wrong (at all) with creating a little distance in a relationship, because a person’s attitude is emotionally draining.
– i am going to learn something new, every month. Big or small, I don’t care. I love learning, and I want to focus on learning things that interest me. enough with the personal guilt that I am “supposed” to do certain things…
– am going to photograph every day, NOT for work… I have been doing this, and originally planned to ring in the new year with a 365 BUT my laptop rang in the new year by dying. Chw salvaged everything, {yay! What a man!} and reformatted it but it’s not quite ready yet, so my memory card sits with it’s belly bloated of photos… I figure, as long as I’m taking them, I’ll just post them when I can. Until then, I’m grateful that he has been willing to share his laptop with me. :)
– I am going to do this
So that’s all… what’s been on your mind, so far?

Here’s to fresh…

We had the unique sort of pleasure of wrapping up 2010 in a truly fabulous way… We completed a few small goals we had, paid off two crippling bills and paid the final payment on my car.

Yep. It was pretty much awesome.
Then we got to hang out with super cool people, some new to us and some not, which made it even better…
I am so grateful for last year…
– for the beautiful niece we were blessed with.
– for so much time with our kids.
– for a glorious family vacation to the coast.
– for so much quality time with amazing friends.
– for our safe and enjoyable trip through the Grand Canyon and to NM for Thanksmas…
– for my mom being here, over the summer.
– That Genny and I were not injured worse than we were, in our car accident.
– for getting more into paper crafting. It’s been fun and I do love my craft club.
– for amazing concerts. {Specifically, 30 Seconds to Mars and Dave Matthews}
– for new friends.
– for birthdays and parties and a glorious string of celebrations.
– for good health.
Perhaps it’s naive optimism, but I am really excited about 2011…
– Gen turns 12.
– We get to celebrate Lucas’ graduation from AIT, in the Army.
– Chw and I get to celebrate our seventeenth anniversary.
– Amanda turns 21.
– an exciting family vacation.
– reconnecting with friends.
– a trip to see my ultra dear friend Angie, hopefully…
– paying off medical bills.
– having healthy hair again. {it WILL happen}
– finding a church to settle in, where we can grow.
Wicked coming to Boise, this spring. I love that show!
– celebrating our family anniversary!
I have a pretty small list of personal goals for the year…
– try Prescatarianism for 3 months (until the end of March) to see if it’s a lifestyle our family (or even just I) could maintain.
– attend a writer’s conference.
– query for an agent/publisher. (scary…)
– complete my family tattoo.
– stop drinking fountain soda every day… (specifically, Sonic fountain soda)
– learn something completely new to me.
– write daily.
– cook more.
– complain less.
– dance often.
– swim whenever I have the chance.
What about you? What are your goals? What things are you looking forward to?
