Coming soon, to a cable network near you…

It had absolutely nothing to do with us at all, but it’s a great story none the less.
We had parts of a reality tv show filmed in our house.
Not a lot of parts, and honestly considering the insane amount of footage being shot for this show, any scenes in (or around) our house are not likely to to even make it in the final cut.
It’s funny, though, just the same.
And I hear you get used to it, though honestly I don’t see how.
We didn’t get a chance to get used to it, because we liked to hide.
Well, except Genny…
Genny liked to try and spy on them, which is funny. Her assessments of what the camera crew was doing were usually really wrong, but it just adds to the story so that’s ok…
Back to the show. The filming was for this show
You may remember last spring we had a family friend (Aubree) stay with us for awhile, and almost as soon as she moved into her mom’s house (her mom had relocated here), her fiance Chris moved in for the summer.
Well, Chris came back this summer, to hang out for a few weeks, until their wedding. (which was this past Saturday.)
Their adventure, filming a reality show, has been a fun one to watch- from our comfy little distance… We hope it, in the end, is a really great story of their own… (being a hater of reality tv, I’m skeptical and worried, but my kids would be the first to tell you I worry about far too much so whatever, ignore my cynicism.)
At any rate, i thought I’d share a few scenes from a really cool wedding for two really remarkable people {whom we love a great deal}, all shot from a measly iPhone in really crappy lighting…
Enjoy…

{ and yes, my husband did brave the camera for about 5 seconds, to attempt to pop n lock…
I LOVE him… }

There are scenes, and then there are SCENES…

Our weekend was a fairly mild one full of sunshine, an awesome double date with M & K to my FAVORITE Local Delish-spot, a super wonderful project I’ll post about later this week, the chopping off of MOST of my hair- and celebrating my husband…

So, on the afore mentioned double date we took in this highly anticipated little flick:
My truly, former film critic professional opinion is: MEH…
Julianne was awful. Really truly awful.
Tom Cruise was interesting. I liked that his character was a redemptive one.
The music could be fun, mostly if JH wouldn’t have sung. Ever.
The writing is cheesy. Whatever… I mean, classic 80’s rock (and some 90’s, which annoyed me) and a musical is loaded with impending cheese- so, whatever…
Russel Brand, for me, made it NOT a total waste of time, but I wouldn’t sit through it again…
So there ya go…
Tell me, how did your weekend look?

1998 called… Literally…

Last week the girls, (you’ll remember we were babysitting Lil’ C) and I went to a local park for an afternoon romp through the water.
I took some super cute pictures, but they are still on my camera. Whatever, I digress…
Imagine the aforementioned 13 year old and 6 year old splashing around and having a lovely little time when suddenly my life changed.
I, being both a writer AND a lover of films and music, have often wondered what my life’s soundtrack would be- should I wake up one day to find it is just like in the movies… You know, with amazing and perfectly fitting back ground music.
So, imagine my surprise when there I am, sitting on the shaded park bench reading my kindle when all of a sudden I hear the Backstreet Boys track “I want it that way” begin to play. Gracefully I scan the park to see who in the world could be so pathetic interesting to blare such a song, in a park.
The thing was though, I could not find anyone. The music sounded so faint, yet there was no questioning it- BSB…
Also being quite OCD, it began to drive me a bit crazy. I shifted my position and the volume increased.
Wait a minute…
And then I realized it was coming from my iPhone, sitting beside me.
EXCEPT that it was my regular screen.
And I do not have BSB on there.
And then it stopped.
Mysterious, right?
It really was. So much so that I thought about it again on Thursday. And Friday. And over the weekend.
But yesterday I wasn’t thinking of it at all when I popped my phone onto the dog and opened the Pandora app. When the app loaded and “I want it that way” began playing, (on my Kings of Leon playlist- of all things.) Mystery was solved…
Sort of.
I mean, relieving that a Ghost hadn’t been calling me with his special BSB ringtone, BUT then again- who turned Pandora on and off? hmmm. ;)

Movie Monday- {The Huntsman}…

It is so risky when certain films build up months upon months of anticipation. Can they really live up to the hype?
I’ll admit, I was a little worried about this one.
I mean, it looked incredible…
But, it also has K-Stew in it, so how remarkable could it actually be?
I have seen it twice now. Once on date night, (with careful scrutiny as to whether or not it would be ok for my sensitive 13 year old to see) and then again with said 13 year old.
I know critics are eating this movie alive and that makes me a little sad because I thought it was really, really good. Let me explain, in beloved bullet point fashion:
– every great part is NOT in the trailer. In fact, the trailer sort of stays quiet to the fact that this is film is the entire story of snow white.
– Charlize Theron. She is such an incredible actress and her role of the Queen is no exception. She has so much tortured depth and was amazing.
– K stew… The director (more on that in a minute) was so brilliant. Sure, she’s the main character. She ALSO has less speaking lines then anyone else. It’s pretty fantastic. Plus, she has this scene where she brings back an “oldie” in the form of Bella writhing in poisoned pain.
– Even though we know the story of SW, this film isn’t ever boring or predictable.
– This movie is hugely creative and beautiful to look at- AND it is the director’s first film. FIRST…
– My absolute favorite thing of all is something that I can’t say because it is a spoiler… but it made me want to stand up and CHEER… (If you’ve seen it and are curious, leave a comment with an email link back and I’ll tell you.) :)
There were a few things I didn’t like though.
Sexual things… Along the sexual abuse line. Nothing utterly graphic, and two of the three things are merely implied but to anyone sensitive about that stuff- it’s there and it sucks.
Overall, it was an enjoyable night of Sushi, Thai food and a great movie…
What was one of your favorite moments of the weekend?
