It’s friday, I’m in love…

I would love to delve into the Cure lyrics here and say that I don’t really care if Monday is actually grey, but I’d be lying. This whole week was a little grey honestly. My husband is away on business and I’m missing him. On top of that there has just been sickness, fibro crap, a dental nightmare and odds and end little things that would bury me alive, if I let them.

(I won’t!)

Instead I’m focussing on the great things, and I’ll be honest, I have had to practice being aware and think a lot more about what this week’s little list might look like…

1.) Portugal. The Man... Heard them? While they aren’t new to my radar (think indie alternative meets totally fresh and amazing) this week I found myself gravitating more to their music that I have before. Big awesome, and very much the bulk of the soundtrack carrying my week.

2.) Sweet potato dog chips. Basically I believe they are dried sweet potatoes. We tried making them a few years back and it was a bust. I became so jaded from the experience that I swore my dogs would never eat sweet potatoes again. (just kidding, that’s not true) We did recently pick up a large bag of them and I can honestly say both dogs love them far better than treats. The super nice thing is that 3.5 month old Elenor will stay “busy” on one for a good chunk of time, giving me a small window of productivity.

3.) This book! While I am pretty new to the Enneagram, this book seems to be the perfect launching pad and I am loving it!

4.) You guys… This week I stumbled upon a 55 gram of protein shake, (55!!!) that tastes like dessert. Seriously, it was decadent. (Nutri-bullet: 1 chocolate Premier protein, 2 scoops Chocorite Peanut Butter protein, 5 ice cubes, 1 banana (potassium!!!) and listen for the Angel’s chorus…

5.) Last but not least, this movie! I was lucky enough to catch a showing, earlier in the week, with a friend. We live in a time when new movies come and go so fast, and most of the time they have the feel of mass production products over art. I realize this film is bombing critically, and as a former critic I get it. Here’s the thing though, critics pick faults by nature- it’s the job. (I can also tell you that watching movies, as a critic, sucks.) I know that average viewers aren’t loving it by the majority either. I think maybe it is marketed as something it isn’t… I think the Sweet Home Alabama fans are shouting from their rooftops “FINALLY!!!” and flocking to see it, expecting Sweet Home Alabama. It isn’t. (not even in the same genre) It is Home Again. Not better, but very, very different. Also, it is very, very beautiful…

So that’s my week… Other bright spots are the constant laugh-til-tears over Elenor and her huge personality… She’s going to her first sleepover tonight and I do declare, I’m going to miss this girl like crazy! Tell me about your week…

It’s Friday, I’m in love…

1.) Christmas is merely a few months away and the trailer for The Man Who Invented Christmas has me super excited! It looks amazing, doesn’t it??? I mean, seriously, we all love Dan Stevens, and it just looks so great! The Man Who Invented Christmas tells of the magical journey that led to the creation of Ebenezer Scrooge (Christopher Plummer), Tiny Tim and other classic characters from A Christmas Carol. Directed by Bharat Nalluri (MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY), the film shows how Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) mixed real life inspirations with his vivid imagination to conjure up unforgettable characters and a timeless tale, forever changing the holiday season into the celebration we know today.

I seriously watch it over and over again…

2.) Speaking of watching… IT. I was lucky enough to catch an early screening of IT this week and I loved it! I was a little nervous, to tell the truth. Scary movies and I aren’t usually buds, but this movie is so great!

3.) I am not one of those girls who goes crazy over pumpkin spice everything… That being said, this Pumpkin Spice and Vanilla Chai lotion is UNBELIEVABLY amazing! I put it on, and then cannot stop smelling my hands!

4.) That I am 90% done with Christmas shopping. I mean, we aren’t doing much this year, but we still have three kids, grandkids, etc… But it is awesome that it is barely September and I’m finished!

5.) Elenor! She is a pill these days, but I ADORE her! She makes my top five all day, every day!

What are your top fives this week?

It’s Friday, I’m in love…

I have been inspired by a lot of really amazing things which help make life a little brighter and more beautiful this week. When I began taking notes as the week progressed, I realized there were mounting up to be a whole lot more that five. It is my job to scale them down, and my absolute pleasure to share a few of my delights this week, with you!

1.) Bella Grace magazine. Do you love simply beautiful things? Are you in need of inspiration? Grace? Goodness? Do you breathe? If you answered yes to ANY of these questions than there is a really good chance that this magazine is for you!

2.) My niece made homemade beef jerky last week. After I got over my jealousy and awe over her domestic skills, I found some recipes and made some too. It was super easy, and interesting. (I did it in the oven.) I will absolutely do it again. It is super tasty, BUT I now feel bold enough to try different things and learn more about this oven process.

3.) Being a child of the 80’s, it is a little strange that I never developed a strong love for Rob Lowe. In fact, I didn’t care one way or the other until we became avid Parks & Rec fans. It was within those boundaries where I developed a Lowe love. And this week, I am proud to say, that love has grown. Have you heard about The Lowe Files? OH MY GOSH! You guys, it is Rob and his adorable adult sons, bonding together over these crazy adventures involving paranormal activity, folklore, etc. I have never been a lover of reality tv (exception being Catfish, of course. We all know this.) MUST SEE! (A & E)

4.) Charmer. It is an app that compliments you. I know, I know, it sounds weird. It is also pretty brilliant and I love it.

5.) Lastly, I don’t have some cool eclipse story. I have really quirky and sensitive eyes and so I stayed in and watched Nasa coverage over Oregon &  Idaho, while my Idaho peeps were all watching in person. While that may seem super lame, I can honestly say I learned more than I expected to. When, over Nebraska, there was a really in-depth look at the Corona, I was pretty enthralled. What started as a little apathetically disappointed resulted in a pretty interesting afternoon. (and if you missed footage of the Corona, I strongly recommend finding some now!)

It’s Friday, I’m in love…

It’s true, I’m daydream in love with these beach chairs, but tragically I am not in one.

If I was in them, I am pretty sure these five loves would all involve BEACH.

What things did you love this past week? Was it a tough week for you? Maybe was there that one (or two) thing that really got you through? If so- I get it…

1.) School supplies! Pencils, pens, notebooks, sticky notes… All of it is so fantastic! I love it, love it, love it!

2.) Doterra’s Shampoo and Conditioner. You guys, I have struggled with my curly, fine hair forEVER, but this week, these two products CHANGED my life. I’m not kidding… (if you’re interested, you can buy it here. You will not regret it!)

3.) Manhunt: Unibomber is so fascinating! Many friends and I have chatted about it, Chw and I are swept up in this limited series. It is so interesting how these events were paralleling our adolescence and young adulthood.

4.) Baby boy things… I know of about 9 baby boys arriving between October and November. To me this number seems crazy, but it is true. I love peaking at baby boy onesies and such, whenever I’m near a store.

5.) These stamps! They are AMAZING! I love fun stamps, but these are maybe my favorite so far! If you get one of these, on a note from me, you will KNOW I really must love you!

It’s friday, I’m in love…

Oh it’s that time again- Hello, weekend! These summer weekends are fleeting and I find this bittersweet.

This week was a BUSY one! Some moments I barely had time to compose myself and other ones were a little more intentional. It has been a weekend filled to the brim with stress and disappointment. You guys, parenthood is HARD. Adulting is HARD. Taking responsibility for screw ups is HARD. My week has been Die Hard with a Vengeance, minus the Bruce Willis/entertainment value/special effects/big budget stuff, and just loads of craptastic.

It is nice to take a few minutes to seek out the best bits of sharable…  I LOVED the links and little notes you guys sent last week! The best part of that was finding some new music. My readers have THE BEST taste! :)

Here’s my top five for the week…

1.) August is apparently the month for Random Acts of Kindness. If you know me at all, you know I am a sucker for RAKs! I absolutely LOVE this project and have been enjoying leaving intentionally written letters about my corner of the world.

2.) If you love Zombie movies, i HIGHLY recommend Train To Busan. (yes, it’s Korean, of course it is…) It was amazing, and by far the best Zombie movie we have ever seen! (also, it’s on Netflix, so that’s super cool too.)

3.) Quite awhile ago a friend of mine recommended the podcast Blue Babies Pink. Essentially it is Brett Trapp’s coming out story, told from his perspective as a now adult preacher’s kid, having grown up as a Jesus loving, well-adjusted youth. It is very interesting, very thought-provoking and at 44 (although super short) episodes, I am two-thirds of the way through and am really glad I make the choice to listen!

4.) I must clarify that i DO NOT own these earrings, but I also am publicly stating it right now: I really, really want them.

5.) Lastly, for this week… Coke Zero Sugar. I know, I know… I was just as sad as everyone else about the loss of Coke Zero. To be honest, my biggest worry was What will I drink at the movies now? And again, being honest, I am not certain they will even offer CZS at the theater, but I do like it. We still have plain old regular coke zero and did do a taste comparison. The two taste nothing alike. Chw likes the new better, while I still prefer the original. (likely because I HATE CHANGE!) that being said, I do really like the new. It tastes good by itself. It tastes good with a splash of lime. It tastes super good with a bit of crown. All in all, it’s a win. :)

Happy weekend!
