Menu Planning and Bullitpoint…

Menu Plan Monday (I am attempting this!!!):

Monday- Wheat Ravioli with Marinara Sauce, Salad
Tuesday- Home Made Chili, cornbread
Wednesday- Chicken Tenders, baked macaroni & Cheese, broccoli
Thursday- cheese and sundried tomato paninis, tomato bisque
Friday- cherry and fig stuffed pork loin, squash chowder, home made bread
And now for the bullitpoint part of today’s agenda:
– Last night we were out on the town celebrating Rabekah’s 20th birthday! Woo Hoo…
– Genny has the most enormous school project due in a week. It is incredibly huge, especially when you consider that this school has minimal expectations of her in all educational areas…
– I love Barnes & Noble. (just felt you should know…)
– Although i had 211 posts on my reader, I did not read all of them… (no way…) What I said was that I read the top post (at least) of every blog I subscribe to.
– Someone tagged me for a Meme. I saw it yesterday… But now I can’t find it. Help?

August Rush…

August Rush is a good example of the higher end of films we will be seeing quite a lot of, if the Writer’s Strike continues.
It’s the perfect example of some studio dumbing a movie down enough to slap a PG rating on it, when in all actuality it isn’t suitable for children at all.
As we sat there, my sister and I were the perfect example of the two types of film watchers. There are those who get swept up in the emotion and only see the romanticism. Then, there are those who actually think throughout the film and need for things to, at the very least, make some semblance of sense.
I am in the latter crowd.
While my sister was crying and going on and on about what a beautiful movie it was, I left with annoyances and questions.
It isn’t a bad movie. The storyline is glorified a little more than it should be. I can live with that.
For the first 20 minutes, or so, nearly every line said seemed lined. Not only did it feel like it was a script, but the things they said were cliche’ and likely not what people would have spoken, in reality. Thankfully, this changed and it never felt like that again.
The music in this film is incredible. These scenes in which the music is played, are shot and edited remarkably. Over all, despite the heavy layer of cheese which blankets parts of this movie to sugar coat the grittiness of it’s plot line, it is a feel good movie. I had hoped for it to be a little more real. Coming from a group home, and working in several as an adult, I had hoped they would be real about this life. At times they were real, and you saw these homes and shelters for what they were. It gives a good glimpse of life on the street, exploitation and a truly flawed system. It has moments where, even the most cynical of viewers can feel their heart church…
And then cheesy, fairy-tale moments occur and those of us “deep thinkers” are plunged back into the reality that this could have been made a lot better…
August Rush would be great for a DVD rental, or dollar theater choice… Maybe even a Matinee…

One week…

Gobble Gobble some good stuff

I am taking part in a fall themed blog carnival and, in doing so, have been instructed to post our menu for Thanksgiving as well as a recipe from the list…

Menu:
– Citrus and Thyme Roasted Turkey (free range, organic)
– Honey and brown sugar glazed Ham
– Cornbread, Cherry and Hazelnut stuffing with Sausage
– Orange Asparagus
– Home made Apricot and Cranberry sauce
– Garlic infused mashed potatoes
– Baked Sugar Yams with Pecans
– Baked Pineapple
– Whole Wheat Dinner knots

– Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake
– White chocolate cups with berries and caramel sauce
– White chocolate mousse with Raspberry Glaze

Recipe:

· 4 pounds yams
· 2 eggs
· 1/4 cup brown sugar
· 2 tablespoons butter, melted
· 1 teaspoon salt
· 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
· 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
· 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
· 6 ounces pecan halves
· 1/3 cup brown sugar
· 1/4 cup melted butter
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2. Poke yams in several places with a fork, then cook them on high power in microwave oven until heated through and soft, about 20 minutes. (or bake for 1.5 hours) When cooled, remove skins and place the yams in a large bowl.
3. Beat yams until smooth. Then beat in one egg at a time, blending after each addition. Stir in 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/8 cup melted butter, salt, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg; beat until the mixture is light and fluffy.
4. Transfer mixture to an non-greased 3 quart casserole dish. Mix chopped nuts, Brown Sugar and butter together and sprinkle on top.
5. Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until slightly bubbly.

Because it’s the best thing EVER…

I love this video…
Far too much…
The very beautiful girl in this little movie is very dear to my heart. I have known her since she was a wee little girl, in pre-school or kindergarten. She is an amazing girl who brings me a lot of inspiration…
Anyway, I do love this video.
It’s a favorite.
My daughter adores it and constantly (for months now) has asked me to watch, and watch, and watch it…
So, I am blogging it…
It will make your wednesday shine…
