Journaling {week six}…

.In my life this week…
I finally started to feel well again. What a wonderful feeling…
I celebrated by playing catch up, in the kitchen, by baking. I wanted to make sure I at least got a few dozen muffins in the freezer before the temps got super hot. Those of you reading this from the Pacific Northwest likely can’t imagine that happening anytime soon…

Me either.
In our homeschool this week…
As we are in “unschool”/summer mode, we were the epitome of taking it easy. Played some wii, watched some movies (during the rainy days), baked dozens of muffins, Gen made dinner by herself one night (Spring vegetable pot pie), went roller skating, lots of fashion design happened and we read and read and read. Already, summer is divine!

On Thursday we wrapped up our second year of our Mother/Daughter book club.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
this weekend we have the Farmer’s market and brunch with friends. We may make a trip to the art museum, (we have a pass) and then on Sunday we have a going away party for dear friends.
My favorite thing this week was…
Genny making a dinner that her family RAVED over… And our muffins. Amazing recipe. YUM!
What’s working/not working for us…
Sleeping in is definitely working!

ALSO, if you haven’t already done it: I’m hosting a summer book club and I’d love for you to join!

I need help filling my jar…

My dear, lovely and amazingly creative Readers,
I struggled to find a more clever way of titling this post… And then I thought to myself, eh- lets just put it bluntly…
Back in March I went to this incredible sale of home decor and design proportions… I purchased a few wonderful pieces, for me, one of which is this beautiful oversized apothocary jar. I had no idea what I would do with it, but I didn’t care. (Mistake one.)
Finally, (and I was quite proud of myself, to boot) I decided it should go in my bathroom.
Where it has sat, for nearly 2 months.
Empty…
And I need your help… What can I do with it?
Here are a few shots of the bathroom itself, and the jar. (and please realize that yes, i do know this room is the ONLY room, in our house, not painted. The reason for this is that we actually can’t paint it- for explanations too long for this post…)

journaling {week five}…

.In my life this week…
{Due to the blogger outage, this is late}
This week I had the priviledge of taking my daughters to see Wicked! It was our second time, and just as good as memories served! It was the best part of a very busy week. The second best thing was that we finished school… Finished is a loose term though because we will carry on, throughout the summer, in more of an un-schooling, “life learning” manner…
In our homeschool this week…
Well… we finished our book learning… We released over a thousand lady bugs into our roses… We went on a field trip to the Art Museum and did an interactive study on the fashion, art and heart in shoe design.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
My oldest had a volleyball game on Monday and a tournament tonight so we’ll be busy with that. There is also Girl Scouts, the Farmer’s Market, church and such.
My favorite thing this week was…
Wicked…
And getting well! Just a hollow, nagging cough remains.
What’s working/not working for us…
Warm days, patio lunches and no book work! everything feels like it’s working these days…

a reminder of our Mother’s Day crepes… but only because we’ve had crepes, in variation, four other times this week. Due to an extra amount of batter and loads of fresh berries… I guess it could be worse! :)

Journaling {week four}…

.In my life this week…
Last weekend, at the Farmer’s Market, our car was backed into. Thankfully we were not in it. Also, thankfully (we think) the offender left a note with his information. The first day, this guy was all remorseful. The days following have found him unwilling to really make any efforts to fix this situation. It’s a little frustrating…

other than that, it’s been a really good week. Warm, quiet. Productive.
In our homeschool this week…
We wrapped up our last Science unit (climate and weather), our final 6th grade social studies unit (Renaissance) and managed 2 field trips. One was to see a musical production of the Secret Garden. (SO lovely! I had no idea!) The other was to the Old Penitentiary in Idaho. Very fun stuff…
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Today is my husband’s birthday and I’m really looking forward to celebrating him and honoring him.
We also have a few college graduations and parties this weekend, which are also nice.
My favorite thing this week was…
We received a letter from the Idaho Coalition of Home Educators presenting Genny with an Honor Society certificate and informing us that she tested in the 84 percentile Nationally. We are so proud of her! While i am not a big fan of standardized testing I do value the freedoms that participating leaves us with, in our state. We went to lunch and had lemon cake to celebrate…
What’s working/not working for us…
I am finding, as the sunshine makes us both antsy with wandering minds, that I’m grateful I pushed for longer school days and more productivity in the winter months. This enables us to have shorter “school” days as we wrap up. Definitely planning to do that again!

This is my nephews, attempting to catch our kite. Wonderfully fun day!

Journaling {week three}

.In my life this week…
I had the unexpectedly cool opportunity to reconnect with my high school BFF. I never thought it was something that would happen, and it pretty much pushed everything remotely cool out of the way. :)

Second follow up, on the coolness scale though, would be Pinterest… addictive, but so cool.
In our homeschool this week…
We went on a field trip to our local Bird’s of Prey center. I felt like I learned just as much as Gen, if not more… I totally planned on uploading photos this evening, but it was a packed night and I just didn’t get to it…

Geometry (6th grade) brought us some challenges and we had to wait for Dad to get home and intervene. (Thank God for daddies!)

Genny wrapped up her language arts curriculum! I am so excited… SO close to being done!
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
This weekend we are going to the Farmer’s Market and taking my two awesome little nephews (5 & 6) out on a date. I love it when we get quality time with them! Not sure yet, what we will do. The world is our oyster…
Also, fingers crossed (and rain clouds staying away) that we might make it to the drive in theater…
My favorite thing this week was…
Easily the sunshine. Even thought it’s been a little cooler than I’d like, the sunshine trumps everything!
What’s working/not working for us…
I’ve been thinking a lot about next year and a few things we’ll have to do differently. We’ve been in “auto function” mode for a few months, in some areas and now that the school season is almost over- i’ve been content to keep them that way. Sure enough though, I’ll be researching idea to help our routine more.
Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…
curious as to how much of the summer other moms devote to planning out the following school year?
